General David McKiernan, Commander ISAF, Calls On Pakistan Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee

Rawalpindi June 27 - General David McKiernan, Commander ISAF, called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Tariq Majid at Joint Staff Headquarters today. He exchanged views with Chairman JCSC focusing on the mutual cooperation and current security environment in the region.

CJCSC reiterated Pakistan’s commitment and support to international efforts in Afghanistan and said that a stable Afghanistan is in the best interest of Pakistan as well as the region.

General Tariq stressed on the need to develop trust based relations at all levels amongst the coalition partners and to comprehensively understand the prevailing dynamics. Pakistan is following a comprehensive strategy based on political engagement and socio-economic development, backed by essential military force to combat militancy, he added.

General David Mckiernan expressed condolence for the death of 11 Pakistani soldiers due to the coalition firing from across the border and regretted the incident.
