Gordon Brown Welcomes Zimbabwe Cricket Decision

PM welcomes Zimbabwe cricket decision

The ICC's decision to suspend Zimbabwe from international competition sends "a powerful message" to Robert Mugabe's regieme, Gordon Brown has said.

The PM said that the decision would allow the Twenty20 tournament in England to go ahead.

"It also sends a powerful message to Zimbabwe that the Government must change or face further isolation."

The ICC have been discussing the future of the country's cricket team at a board meeting in Dubai.

The England and Wales Cricket Board had cancelled Zimbabwe's 2009 tour of England and severed all ties in June this year. South Africa has also severed all cricketing ties with Zimbabwe.

The Prime Minister's comments:

"I welcome the suspension of Zimbabwe from ICC tournaments for a year. This will allow the Twenty20 tournament in England to go ahead.

"It also sends a powerful message to Zimbabwe that the Government must change or face further isolation."
