PM Gordon Brown Welcomes Kindest Kids To Number 10
24 July 2008 - Gordon Brown has welcomed five short-listed candidates for the title of Britain's kindest kid to 10 Downing Street.
The PM and wife Sarah met the children along with TV presenter Natasha Kaplinsky from Channel 5 - the broadcaster is running the contest in conjunction with the Charities Aid Foundation.
Examples of the kindness demonstrated include Charlie Doherty and Daniella Jacobson's refusal to accept birthday presents from friends and family, but instead have the money donated to charities and good causes.
Tara Ifill set up a business that sells eco friendly t-shirts. She donates a quarter of the profits to youth clinics in South East London, a quarter to fund operations for children in developing countries and invests the remainder back into the scheme.
The short listed candidates are:
* Charlie Doherty
* Kirsty Turnbull
* Liam Fairhurst
* Daniella Jacobson
* Tara Ifill
The aim of the contest is to find children under 16 who have made the biggest contribution to a charity or their community. The audience of Five News will pick a winner, who will receive £1,000 pocket money and a further £1,000 to give to a charity of their choice.
