Snow Hits Pre-Inauguration Activities Today;
Close Call for Snow Inauguration Day

State College, Pa. -- January 19, 2009 -- AccuWeather.com reports those attending the Inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama today and Tuesday will need to bundle up for the cold weather. Temperatures today and tomorrow will be in the low 30s, but it will feel more like the 20s.

Light snow will fall across the Washington and Baltimore area today with accumulation of up to an inch. This is the first significant snow of the season for that area. The snow will coat roads and make travel slippery before tapering off early tonight.

Those planning on traveling into Washington, DC., this afternoon from Richmond, Philadelphia or Pittsburgh to attend the Inauguration should be prepared to run into a little snow on the way and slow travel conditions.

Tonight, temperatures will fall back into the 20s and untreated areass are likely to freeze.

For Inauguration Day, AccuWeather.com is predicting cloudy weather with temperatures mainly in the 20s during the Inauguration. With the wind blowing, it will feel more like the teens out on the Mall. Any snow that falls today will remain around through Inauguration Day.

While AccuWeather.com is predicting a dry day for Inauguration Day, a second storm will develop off the North Carolina coast tonight. Snow will spread into southeast Virginia and eastern North Carolina tonight and Tuesday. Indications are the snow will stay south of Washington D.C. during the Inauguration, but if the storm were to back a little to the west and north which would mean snow would fall during the Inauguration.
