PetitionsTo Hold Israel Accountable For War Crimes

REQUEST TO SIGN AND FORWARD PETITION (S) TO HOLD ISRAEL ACCOUNTABLE FOR WAR CRIMES COMMITTED IN GAZA

"Israel will wield disproportionate power against every village from which (suspected) shots are fired on Israel, and cause immense damage and destruction. From our perspective, these are military bases. Civilian areas are "legitimate military targets," and non-combatants are as fair game as fighters." Admission of intent to commit War Crimes by Officials of the Government of Israel, 12/27/08

Dear Friends,

The January 2009 online Gaza Petitions, issued by EAFORD( International Organization for the elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination: Email: (info@eaford .org) in Switzerland, and the Tlaxcala Universal Petition to prosecute Israel before the International Criminal Court (ICC) (http://www.tlaxcala.es/detail_artistes.asp?lg=es&reference=268, both endorsed by International Lawyers with Borders (Avocats International sans Frontiers (Email:intllawyerswithoutborders@googlemail.com), the Sabra-Shatila Foundation (Email: sabrashatilafoundation@googlemail.com), HOKOK, the International Coalition against Impunity ( Email: hokok.ilwob@googlemail.com) among countless other NGO's and individuals urges all people of good will to sign an online Petition calling on the other 191 Member States of the UN to hold Israel accountable for its serial violations of International Law committed in Gaza.

WHY SIGN A PETITION?

Given the silence of most political leaders, often cowed by the pro-Israel lobby in their countries, we refuse to remain silent and deem it our duty to resist the Crimes against Gazans and to mount this international effort of ordinary citizens to seek justice as we challenge Israel in countless local, national and international courts as well as popular tribunals, community forums and meetings.

The World is increasingly aware of the egregious violations of International Law and profligate bloodshed committed by Israel during it 23 days of slaughter. It is for this reason that on 1/22/09 Israel appointed Daniel Friedman to lead an inter-ministerial team to coordinate a legal defense for civilians and the military. Israel's military censor has already banned the publication of the identity of unit leaders and others likely to face war crimes charges.
The facts and International law are on the side of the people of Gaza. We urge people of good will everywhere to add their signatures to a Petition and to join in documenting the facts, applying the law, and advancing universal jurisdiction while ending Israeli impunity for its continuing international crimes.

Specifically, International Lawyers without Borders, and its affiliates, intends to deliver copies of the International Gaza Petition, every 60 days as the Petition grows, to
• UN officials in New York and regional Headquarters
• The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
• The Secretariat of the International Court of Justice in The Hague, as we seek to bring an Advisory Opinion Case.
• Members of the US Congress and the legislative bodies of the 27 Members of the European Union as well as the National Legislatures of the 192 UN Member States.
• International, regional, and national human rights organizations and professional bodies worldwide.
We urge the widespread distribution of the Petitions to all persons of good will and we ask them to sign it and pass the Petition link to their friends and loved ones.
