Citroen Praised For Cutting Blind Spot Hazards

Citroen is one of the few car makers to score range wide top scores in the NRMA Blind Spot Ratings, from its smallest to largest cars and including its commercial vehicles.

Organised by the Australian insurer and motorists’ organisation, the ratings highlight the risks posed when a driver simply cannot see hazards due to the shape and design of their cars. The testing involved rotating a laser 180 degrees from the driver’s seat to replicate a driver’s vision. The scores were calculated by taking into account the position of the windscreen pillars (where the windscreen meets the side window) and how much each blocked the laser. The NRMA tested 138 new vehicles.

The Citroen C6 headed the large car class, the Citroen C5 and C5 Tourer headed the Medium car class, the Citroen C4 Picasso not only lead the people mover class but was also singled out for its outstanding performance in the tests, the C3 Pluriel was second in its class and Citroen Berlingo and Dispatch were the best performing vans.

“While it’s one thing to have superb safety systems to protect you in the event of an accident, as all Citroens, of course, do, buts it's is better to avoid the accident in the first place and the first step in achieving that has to be able to see hazards,” says Lawrie Malatios, General Manager for Citroen in New Zealand. “These independent tests by the NRMA reveal the detailed work on providing excellent driver visibility that Citroen has engineered into all its cars and commercial vehicles. Citroen safety features cover occupant safety, pedestrian safety, personal security, property protection and driver visibility and independent tests have consistently shown that Citroen is a leader in all these areas.”
