At a ceremony today at the Department of State, Deputy Secretary James B. Steinberg received for deposit the Republic of Kosovo’s instruments of acceptance of the Articles of Agreement of the International Monetary Fund and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, both Bretton Woods institutions, for which the United States is the depositary government. Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu and Prime Minister Hashim Thaci signed the Articles of Agreement prior to depositing the Republic of Kosovo’s instruments of acceptance. This event marked the Republic of Kosovo’s formal integration into the global financial system and will have a positive influence on its economic and financial development.
