December 15, 2009
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Bahrain as they celebrate the country’s 38th National Day and the tenth anniversary of the accession of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa.
The United States and Bahrain have long enjoyed a partnership built on mutual respect and mutual interest, and today those bonds are stronger than ever. During the past ten years, we have significantly broadened our cooperation, working together to address regional and global challenges and to build a more peaceful and prosperous future for all our people.
This is an occasion to celebrate the history and achievements of the Bahraini people. Under the leadership of His Majesty the King, Bahrainis have achieved impressive political and economic development, and I am confident in Bahrain’s bright future.
Let me reaffirm the commitment of the United States to working together to broaden and deepen our partnership and offer my warmest wishes on this National Day.
