Big Sunday for Destiny Church Brisbane

125 committed church members enjoyed their first church service under new leadership at Destiny Church Brisbane today.

Church spokesman Richie Lewis says updated reports back from Brisbane give every indication that the membership is buoyant and focused towards its future.

“We’re very happy with how things have unfolded in Brisbane in spite of the negative attention from Campbell Live. Our vision for a thriving local church in Brisbane is well and truly alive as planning is underway to move the church forward,” says Mr Lewis.

He says he is disappointed to learn that Campbell Live reporter Mihirangi Forbes lied to Brisbane church members to gain access to the service by stating she had been granted special permission by Mr Lewis to attend. A subsequent phone call back to New Zealand revealed Forbes had in fact not communicated with Mr Lewis or any other senior management at all, and she was subsequently asked to leave.

“Normally we wouldn’t have an issue with media attending but in light of the recent attention it would be an unnecessary distraction for our families to contend with. But this kind of behaviour is typical of the approach Campbell Live has taken towards us and is the reason why we refuse to deal with them. Surely there are far more important news items than our local church in Brisbane, that justify flying two Campbell Live reporters and their camera crews to Australia and back,” he added.
