Republic of Tajikistan's Independence Day
Hillary Rodham Clinton
Secretary of
State
Washington, DC
September 7, 2010
On behalf of President Obama and the people of the United States, I congratulate the people of Tajikistan as you celebrate the 19th anniversary of your independence this September 9.
The relationship between Tajikistan and the United States has grown into a broad-based partnership in recent years, addressing a wide range of issues important to the region and our world. Together we are working to stem the flow of narcotics, halt the spread of weapons of mass destruction, and counter extremist ideologies. The United States is committed to a long-term relationship that continues to foster Tajikistan’s economic development, connect more people to the global marketplace, increase regional stability and security, and promote democratic reforms.
As we join in celebrating your history and culture, I wish the people of Tajikistan a peaceful holiday and look forward to many more years of friendship and continued cooperation between our nations.
