West Papua: Upcoming Protest on 23 June 2011

West Papua: Upcoming Protest on 23 June 2011

Dear friends,

I am writing this email to inform you that we will continue to have another protest again on 23 June 2011 in Manokwari and Yapen Waropen. The protest will be starting at 10 Am. The purpose to have an another protest is just only to demand for Indonesian government for releasing all West Papua Political prisoners immediately so they can go back to Papua society and reunite with their family members after so long they are separated while they live in Indonesia prisons.

As former West Papua political prisoners, I know how is difficult is when I was in Indonesia jail but now I am in Washington or even i first time I escape to Australia, I really enjoy my freedom here in abroad but I never forget about my colleague where they never have that freedom. While I am here in Washington Dc to attend human rights advocacy days campaign regarding torture day on 26 June in front of White house Washington, I would like to ask international community for making pressure to Indonesia government especially US and Australia government to advise Indonesia to release all West Papua political prisoners immediately. West Papuan political prisoners are not criminal under international law and they should be release immediately. Living in prison for so long is another torture life for us as West Papuan where many West Papuan People has been facing under Indonesia.

So again, please I ask for international monitoring for upcoming protest on 23 June in Manokwari and Yapen Waropen even a recent protest on 10 June 2011 without any people arrested however if some of West Papuan activist are still living in jail, that means West Papuan need our voices to bear by international community.

Peace,

Herman Wainggai
