Tonga Police Commissioner post to be advertised

Police Commissioner post to be advertised

The Prime Minister, Lord Tu’ivakano was In Audience of His Majesty King George Tupou V yesterday, as part of the Prime Minister’s monthly briefing to His Majesty.

On the issue of Cabinet’s decision concerning the contract of Police Commissioner Christopher Kelley, His Majesty accepted the oversight by government and agreed with the genuine intentions that surrounded the decision as part of Cabinet’s measures of good and transparent governance.

Following this, it has been Cabinet’s intention earlier in the year to advertise any CEO positions that became vacant and allow the incumbent together with other applicants to apply for such position.

As such, the Police Commissioner’s position, having become vacant as of today, will be advertised both locally and abroad for interested applicants.

Mr Kelley’s exemplary record with the Tonga Police will be given due consideration should he choose to re-apply together with other applicants, including those from overseas, which the Tonga Government is eager to receive.

Since the riots of 2006, Mr Kelley’s appointment first as Police Commander in 2008 and then as Commissioner earlier this year, has been the driving force of reinstating the people’s trust in the Tonga Police.
