MOSOP Provisional [Ruling] Council (MPC) is a Fake

The Movement for Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) founded by late Ken Saro-Wiwa says MPC is not an authentic Ogoni Organ.

In a statement based on a four-point resolution adopted at the end of an inter-kingdom Open General Assembly held on January 21, 2012 at Luuyor-Gwara in Babbe Kingdom of Ogoni, the Movement for Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) on Saturday categorically disassociated itself from the MOSOP Provisional [Ruling] Council (MPC)” headed by Dr. Ben Naanen.

According to the Statement: “The socalled MOSOP Provisional [Ruling] Council (MPC) purportedly set by Ledum Mitee is not a legitimate organ of the Movement for Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) that was founded by late Ken Saro-Wiwa.”

MOSOP Secretary-General, Hon. Dum Ale John Budam said that individuals, groups or institutions that may have any dealing with the socalled MOSOP Provisional [Ruling] Council (MPC) headed by Naanen, would do so at their own risk.

Budam said the Naanen-group DOES NOT EXIST even as an affiliate in the register of affiliate organs of the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP).

On Sunday, January 22, 2012, addressing the leadership of the Council of Ogoni Churches (COC), Reverend Sir Mike Ibirah who is the president of the body, said that the newly formed Ben Naanen-group based at the University of Port Harcourt has been to correct the impression that it has any authority to negotiate for the resumption of crude oil production throughout on behalf of the Ogoni people. Sir Ibirah said it was only MOSOP as presently constituted under the leadership of Dr. Goodluck Diigbo as MOSOP President/Spokesman that has such mandate.

Sir Ibirah advised Ogonis not to associate with MPC or any group that puts out cheap publicity to deceive the oil companies, including Anglo-Royal Dutch/Shell or its entity – Shell Petroleum Development Corporation (SPDC) as well as the government that they can resume oil production without the knowledge of the Ogoni people.

Sir Ibirah said that the Ogoni people had on November 10, 2011 and January 4, 2012 adopted various resolutions and mandated the leadership of Dr. Goodluck Diigbo as MOSOP President / Spokesman to work towards the functioning of an Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority (OCIA) and the holding of a multi-stake-dialogue to make progress on the disputed United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) Ogoniland Environmental Assessment Report, which was issued on August 4, 2011.

Naanen was reportedly sacked as Secretary of MOSOP under the leadership of Ken Saro-Wiwa and replaced with Dr. Appolos Bulo for abuse of office and gross misconduct that almost damaged the integrity of MOSOP.
