Ogoni Education and Health Departments Established

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) says it has established Education and Health departments as part of a framework to attract direct cooperation with public agencies and NGOs worldwide to address education and health challenges that 1.2 million indigenous Ogoni people face in Nigeria.

MOSOP President and Spokesman, Dr. Goodluck Diigbo said the framework would also increase the chances of helping the Ogoni people on the ground to be directly involved in their own affairs

MOSOP President stated this in his message on Saturday, February 11, 2012 during an inter-kingdom MOSOP meeting held at Gbene-Ue in Tai Kingdom of Ogoni where the Ogoni Education and Health departments were inaugurated.

Diigbo explained that the newly established Departments in Ogoni are part of tools needed to acquire data and information for rebuilding a new society that would counter Nigeria’s influence of corruption on Ogoni planning and development under the Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority – OCIA.

The Ogoni Education Department has Hon. Samuel Zortee of Lewe community in Gokana Kingdom as the Administrator. Zorte is a private model school proprietor and a professional teacher with managerial skills in business. Among other professional trainings, Zorte holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Accountancy.

The administrator for the Health Department is Chief Gbenekanu Yorko, an accomplished healthcare practitioner; a retired hospital staff with 35 years of impressive public records, philanthropist, also a farmer and member of Duboro council of chiefs in Ken Khana Kingdom of Ogoni.

Among other tasks, the Education and Health institutions are to cooperate with their relevant village boards to provide updated documentation for education and healthcare planning and public awareness about conditions in each Ogoni village.
