Fatah movement’s misleading statement

Statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.

We regret the Fatah movement’s misleading statement and considering themselves above the law

The Ministry of Interior and National Security regrets the lies and slanders spread by some Fatah leaders, and the continuing denial and attack on the truth, spreading inappropriate rumours about the Palestinian security services in the Gaza Strip.

We at the Ministry of Interior are surprised by what was published by the mass media, citing a statement issued by the Fatah movement and the statements of Mrs. Amal Hamad, a member of the Central Committee of Fatah in Gaza, which are unfounded and untrue.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Interior and National Security confirms the following:

1. The leadership of Fatah movement and their members are free to move and roam without any limitation or restriction in the Gaza Strip, and they regularly hold meetings, which has been confirmed by the Fatah movement itself in statements about a series of internal arrangements for the movement in the Gaza Strip.

2. The freedom of travel to and from the Gaza Strip for leaders and cadres of the Fatah movement is fully available, as they travel through the crossings, whether the Rafah crossing or the Beit Hanoun crossing.

3. The position of the Fatah movement comes from their refusal to cooperate and comply with laws and regulations administered by Palestinian security services at the crossings of the Gaza Strip.

4. The leaders of Fatah are still behaving as though they are higher than the government and the law.

5. Such statements are not based on facts, have a negative impact on the efforts of Palestinian reconciliation, and indicate that Fatah want to spoil the atmosphere of the reconciliation agreement, and cause its withdrawal.

6. We call on Mr. Mahmoud Abbas and the Fatah leadership in the Gaza Strip to determine their position on the statement which was issued by the official spokesman of the movement, and published by the mass media.

7. We emphasize that everyone is equally under the law, whatever his position or authority, and we will not allow anyone to breach it.
