Haniyeh calls for an independent Arab Commission to investigate Arafat’s death

GAZA,(PIC)-- The Palestinian government in Gaza called for the formation of an independent Arab Commission to investigate the death of President Yasser Arafat and to prosecute those responsible for his death after a Swiss Institute found "surprisingly" high levels of polonium-210 in the iconic leader's clothing following an examination for an Al Jazeera documentary that was aired Tuesday.

Hamas movement has also called on the Palestinian Central Elections Commission, in a statement after its weekly meeting chaired by Ismail Haniyeh, to address immediately the problems in order to overcome its current suspension, calling on Fath movement to fulfill its commitments to the reconciliation process particularly.

The movement congratulated the Arab Republic of Egypt after the presidential election success, and congratulated Muhammad Mursi on his victory in Egypt's presidential election, confirming that "Palestine and the Gaza Strip are completely ready to fully cooperate with Egypt in various political, security and economic fields."

Meanwhile, the Palestinian government in Gaza condemned the continued settlement expansion process in the West Bank, saying that "This is a war crime punishable by international law."
