PM Lilo Re-Affirms Support For Political Integrity Bill

Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo has re-affirmed the government’s full support towards the Political Integrity and Stability bill.

Speaking during the close of the National Summit on Political Integrity and Stability in Solomon Islands on Thursday night, Prime Minister Lilo said the government’s financial support for the program and their personal engagement demonstrates the desire to progress and achieve the program.

“Once relevant options and reports are placed before Cabinet, we will ensure that there is no undue delay,” the Prime Minister said.

Prime Minister Lilo said the NCRA government firmly believes that their role as leaders today is to create the appropriate frameworks and platforms for the children of tomorrow.

He said in order to achieve that; they must have a bi-partisan approach.

“It is for this reason that the Opposition is also heavily involved,” Mr Lilo said.

The Prime Minister recalled when the NCRA government under his leadership re-launched this project in March this year; the taskforce was given two major tasks.

The first was to build on the momentum generated by previous governments but expand the consultation to the provinces.

This Mr Lilo said would ensure that the program benefits from the inputs of the entire country.

The second was to bring more clarity to the options available to the government.

Prime Minister Lilo said this would enable the government to decide on the most practical and effective devices to achieve political integrity and stability.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister appealed to all Solomon Islanders to contribute their thoughts and ideas to help build a system of political government that has integrity and is stable.
He also urged all parliamentarians to obtain the relevant reports and information to help them understand the process and the outcomes.

“It is my earnest hope that we will bring the changes that are required.”
