ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE ELECTION OF THE POPE

Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio was elected as Supreme Pontiff, the 265th successor of Peter, and has chosen the name Francis.

The cardinal proto-deacon Jean-Louis Tauran made the solemn announcement to the people at 8.12 p.m. from the external loggia of the Hall of Blessings of the Vatican Basilica following the white smoke which occurred at 7.06 p.m.

Following are the words pronounced by Cardinal Tauran:

Annuntio vobis gaudium magnum;

habemus Papam:

Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum,

Dominum Georgium Marium

Sanctae Romanae Ecclesiae Cardinalem Bergoglio

qui sibi nomen imposuit Franciscum.

[I announce to you with great joy;

We have a Pope;

The most eminent and most reverend Lord

Lord Jorge Mario

Cardinal of Holy Roman Church Bergoglio

Who has taken the name Francis.]

Il Cardinale Jorge Mario Bergoglio è stato eletto Sommo Pontefice, 265° successore di Pietro, ed ha scelto il nome di Francesco.

Ne ha dato il solenne annuncio al popolo, alle ore 20.12, dalla Loggia esterna della Benedizione della Basilica Vaticana, il Cardinale Protodiacono Jean-Louis Tauran, in seguito alla fumata bianca delle ore 19.06.

Queste le parole del Cardinale Tauran:

habemus Papam:

Eminentissimum ac Reverendissimum Dominum,

A las 20.12, después de aparecer la "fumata" blanca, el Cardenal Protodiácono, Jean-Louis Tauran, dio el anuncio a las gentes desde la "loggia" o balcón externo de la Bendición de la basílica vaticana, con estas palabras:
