Assistant Secretary Ryan Travels to London, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Muscat, Kuwait City and Oviedo

Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Evan Ryan will travel to London, Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Muscat, Kuwait City, and Oviedo October 14-24 to engage international stakeholders in the Department of State’s cross-cultural and educational diplomacy efforts.

In London, Assistant Secretary Ryan met with the U.S.-UK Fulbright Commission and alumni of U.S. government exchange programs to discuss issues such as youth and civic engagement and entrepreneurship.

In Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, Assistant Secretary Ryan will engage with current exchange participants and alumni, including English Language Fellows, and visit classrooms administering the English Access Microscholarship Program.

Assistant Secretary Ryan will proceed to Muscat where she will meet with Omani government officials to discuss ways to increase people-to-people ties and exchange programs between our two countries. Assistant Secretary Ryan will also participate in a roundtable with exchange program alumni to encourage civic participation and volunteerism on environmental issues.

In Kuwait City, Assistant Secretary Ryan will visit an English Access Microscholarship Program classroom, visit local sites related to cultural heritage and art education, and meet with exchange program participants and alumni, including those focusing on disability advocacy and youth entrepreneurship and employment.

Assistant Secretary Ryan will continue on to Oviedo to lead the U.S. delegation to accept the 2014 Prince of Asturias Award for International Cooperation for the Fulbright Program. Additional details about this portion of Assistant Secretary Ryan’s trip are forthcoming.
