Fiji Invites Mice Delegates to Swap Laptops for Shovels
Outrigger on the Lagoon, Fiji Invites Mice Delegates to Swap Laptops for Shovels
CORAL COAST, FIJI –MICE delegates can make a lasting difference to the lives of their Fijian hosts by being part of Outrigger Resorts' dedicated commitment to local communities and their culture.
The centrepiece of this commitment is the construction of a large Bure or traditional meeting hall at Conua School in the nearby Sigatoka Valley.
By investing a few hours of their time, MICE delegates, under the supervision of Outrigger's engineering team, can add another level of achievement to their conference experience.
No construction knowledge is necessary, just a willingness to help build what will be the focal point of the village with the capacity to accommodate over 100 people for school and village meetings and community events.
There is also the opportunity to meet and interact with the local school children who will benefit directly from this project.
The Bure’s construction, which when completed will have a cost of approximately FJD$100,000, is being driven by Outrigger on the Lagoon General Manager, Mr Peter Hopgood and his team.
It is expected to open at the end of 2015.
Mr Hopgood said the community tourism project had already proved popular with guests who volunteered their time to assist the resort's engineering team with all aspects of the building phase from basic labour to more skilled trade work.
"When guests participate in the project, they immerse themselves in the Fiji community, interact with the local school children and share a bowl of kava with the local villagers," he said.
"I think this is a unique opportunity for our valued MICE clients to give something back to the local community. It’s a meaningful activity for corporate groups and will, I think, leave them with a sense of satisfaction and participation above and beyond the professional development they will achieve from their conference sessions.
"Outrigger on the Lagoon. Fiji enjoys a high return rate among its guests and once the bure is completed, they will be able to visit the school on subsequent visits and see the results of their work and the smiles on the faces of the local people," Mr Hopgood said.
Located one hour fifteen minutes via road from Nadi International Airport, Outrigger on the Lagoon has three dedicated conference rooms including the Reef Ballroom, an Executive Boardroom and a hilltop Bure as well as terraces suitable for breakout sessions or tea breaks. The property has 207 rooms and suites and 47 bures and is centred around an integrated resort with all the services and facilities expected of a 5-star resort.
The resort will be represented at AIME which takes place in Melbourne, 24 - 25 February 2015.
