Maintaining Rural Roads A Priority

Maintaining Rural Roads A Priority

FRA and its contractor Fulton Hogan Hiways continues their commitment to upgrade rural roads around the Central and Northern Divisions to ensure year-around access for villages and communities in rural areas.

A case in point is the settlement of Nadali. This vegetable farming community of 110 families located near Nausori Airport has faced “virtually impassable road conditions when it rains for fourteen years,” said Milly Nabi, President of the Nadali Community Association

“Grocery shopping and transporting our product to market has been a daily challenge. Even our school children had to often miss school on rainy days because vehicles could not enter the road.” he said, and added, “we are grateful because these problems are all now in the past.”

Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) has completed the maintenance of the 250-metre that involved the clearing high shoulders on both sides of the road, gravelling, resheeting as well as grading of the road surface.

Fulton Hogan Hiways continues to support Fiji Roads Authority by servicing Fiji's rural roads in the Central, Eastern, and Northern divisions.
