A Bus Bay for Vuci Methodist Primary
A Bus Bay for Vuci Methodist Primary
Approximately 900
students attending Vuci Methodist Primary School will soon
begin and end their school day with improved safety, once
the bus bay outside the school has been completed.
The school is located on Vuci Road, approximately 3.1kilometres north-east of the Nausori bus stand.
Fulton Hogan Highways (FHH), who works under the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) to improve road access across the Central, Eastern and Northern divisions, was contracted to complete the project.
Mr. Eddie de Vries, FHH Special Projects Manager, said that most of the work to complete the off-road, 5m x 65metre, gravelled stopping area for buses took place during the school holidays.
“For the students’ safety, after the second term began, the work carried out would cease each day as the children arrived and left school,” said Mr de Vries.
Head Teacher, Vuci Methodist Primary, Mr. Jope Bukacaca, said the lack of footpaths, the narrow road and careless drivers posed a risk to his students and staff, especially when students queued to board the buses.
“We
are very fortunate that the Fiji Roads Authority has
acknowledged our request for a bus bay. Its completion is
paramount to the safety of the children,” he said.
