Fresh Comment on David Dungay Protest today by Lawyer
Comment on today’s protest outside Long Bay jail
from George Newhouse, Principal Solicitor at National
Justice Project which represents the family of David
Dungay:
Today is the second anniversary of David Dungay Jr’s death and the agony experienced by his family has not ebbed, in fact the delays in the justice system has exacerbated their feelings of loss, frustration and abandonment
The Dungay family are still grieving the death of their son, brother, cousin and uncle. Tragically, their frustration was palpable today.
They have no faith in our justice, health and correctional system as it has let them down too many times already.
All they want is justice; accountability and they want reforms to be implemented to ensure that no family has to go through the pain that they have experienced ever again.
The family of David Dungay Jr had to watch their loved one die begging those officers restraining him, dozens of times, to simply allow him to breathe. Those pleas went unheeded and David died in excruciating circumstances.
The family need closure on this episode and ask for the public to understand their frustration on this tragic anniversary.
