Australians overseas urged to enrol for federal elections

The 2019 Australian federal election has been announced and will be held on 18 May 2019.

Australians living overseas have until 8pm on 18 April (Australian time) to take action if they are eligible to enrol for the 2019 federal election.

“If you’ve been living overseas for fewer than three years, you might be eligible to enrol to vote in the federal election,” the Electoral Commissioner, Mr Tom Rogers, said.

“If you’re not enrolled – and you started living overseas after May 2016 – you will be eligible to enrol if you’re an Australian citizen aged 18 years or older and you intend to return to Australia within six years of your date of departure.

“To enrol from overseas, you need to complete the Enrol to Vote for Federal Elections from outside Australia form, which can be found at www.aec.gov.au/overseas

“Completed enrolment forms must be scanned and uploaded at www.aec.gov.au/return, faxed, or returned by post to the reply-paid AEC address written on the form before 8pm, Thursday 18 April in the state or territory you last lived in.”

Australian citizens currently living or travelling overseas can check their enrolment details online at www.aec.gov.au/check and find out enrolment and voting options at www.aec.gov.au/overseas

Note: Australians citizens aged 18 years or over who are temporarily travelling overseas for business or holidays should also check, enrol or update their details by the 8pm 18 April deadline.
