Malnutrition deaths of children in three villages in the district Kwoor, Tambrauw District of West Papua. About 95 people died from starvation and disease.
Three villages were attacked by plague, among others Kampung Baddei, Jokjoker and Kasyefo.
Members of the West Papua People's Assembly, Wolas Krenak confirmed the famine in the area. Former journalist Voice Updates felt sad seeing some of the nation's children die due to lack of eating.
"Data released by NGO Papua Belantara about malnutrition is true," he said.
According to him, the NGO was very close to the people of Papua. "And the central and local government should be open and feel embarrassed by this incident," he told the SP, Wednesday (3/4) morning.
Chairman of NGO Belantara Papua province, Abner Korwa told reporters on Tuesday (2/4), said the death has occurred in a row due to malnutrition and disease outbreaks that have occurred since October 2012 last month.
Initially, he said, deaths due to malnutrition information only reports villagers. But after forming a team and went down along with local Kodim, it did find the real facts.
In Kampung Bakti, about 15 children die in consecutive in 1-2 weeks. "After we have checked to Head of Health Service Tambrauw, he just answered it is because lack of health workers and also the lack of drugs in the area," he said.
Failed Otsus
Deaths from malnutrition making West Papua People's Council members angry and sorry about this.
"What's special autonomy money when there are so many starvation deaths in Papua? It's pathetic," said Wolas.
Local and central government requested immediate relief to the victims of the famine.
"No longer do meetings, meetings, meetings, and meetings for this and that. Be right there to help because they are, because they are also part of the Republic of Indonesia," he said.
Ironically, Papuan children died on the abundant natural wealth.
