Celebration of the International Day of Democracy: Indonesian Police Blocked a Peaceful Demonstration of West Papua People

Info PNWP 16 September 2013, West Papua National Committee (KNPB) as the struggle of the people of West Papua media today do peaceful demonstrations in a number of areas to commemorate the International Day of Democracy, which the UN in 2010 has set September 15 as the International Day of Democracy.

Buchtar Tabuni West Papua National Parliament (PNWP) said mementum this international celebration of democracy, PNWP and KNPB commissioned to mobilize the people of West Papua peaceful rallies to declare to the world that the right of self-determination for the people of West Papua have not been implemented in a fair and democratic.

Agreement signed by the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on August 15, 1962 in New York known as the New York Agreement on August 15, 1962 it does not guarantee the exercise of the right of self determination of the people of West Papua in a fair and democratic. The people of West Papua under Indonesian military weapons threat forced, and pointed to a small portion of the people of West Papua to declare 1022 as part of the Indonesian nation.

Peaceful demonstrations today also implemented to provide support to the Government of Vanuatu to bring West Papua to the annual session of the UN September. And also call on our brothers MSG like Vanuatu, Fiji, Solomon Island, PNG and New Caledonia (Kanaky) to follow up on the results of the final decision at the annual meeting of the MSG MSG in Kanaky June 19 to 21 June, 2013 on West Papua.

Further Buchtar Today Tabuni said Indonesian police had issued a restraining order not to conduct peaceful demonstrations. However, in principle PNWP and KNPB conduct peaceful demonstrations in a number of areas in West Papua even though banned by the police.

DiJayapura, police arrested and intimidate people who are conducting peaceful demonstrations. A total of 53 activists arrested KNPB and citizens.

In Sorong, Police disperse the crowd who were conducting a peaceful demonstration and arrested 27 people.

In Nabire, Police disperse the crowd who were conducting a peaceful demonstration and arrested, tortured 14 people.

In Biak, police blockade against mass demonstrations were peaceful. Although blocked by the police, but mass rallies remained peaceful and did long mark in the number of paths in Biak.
