During Sunday and Monday a mix of fine and cloudy conditions with a few showers likely also.

MARLBOROUGH and CANTERBURY: High cloud thickening today with rain developing about the western ranges. Northwest gales later from inland Canterbury southwards. Tomorrow a few falls of rain spreading from the west in strong northwest conditions and snow likely to the southern Alps. A southwest change Saturday morning with brief rain then a few coastal showers and becoming fine inland. A few coastal showers likely Sunday and Monday, elsewhere mainly fine with inland frosts.

BULLER, WESTLAND and FIORDLAND: Rain working into most areas today with heavy falls south of Hokitika from tonight. Later tomorrow rain gradually easing to showers from the south. Becoming fine Saturday in most places but cloud increasing later about the fiords. Showers and fine periods Sunday with southwest winds. Few showers expected Monday.

OTAGO and SOUTHLAND: High cloud thickening with rain developing about the western ranges. Northwest gales later today about inland areas. Tomorrow some rain in most places briefly with snow on the higher range tops. West to northwest winds easing then a southwest change working slowly north with showers. Becoming mainly fine Saturday. Wintry showers and strong southwesterlies Sunday, showers retreating to the south coast Monday and winds easing.

CHATHAM ISLANDS: Cloudy with the odd shower today and tomorrow. Northwesterlies strengthening tomorrow. Showers turning to rain Saturday with strong northwest winds continuing. Rain easing to showers Sunday and turning colder with southwesterlies developing. Cold and showery again Monday.
