Tree Felling Along Parts Of Northwestern Motorway
Motorists using the Northwestern Motorway over the next six weeks may notice tree felling alongside parts of the motorway between Western Springs and Hobsonville Road.
As part of its contribution to help eradicate the Painted Apple Month in west Auckland, Transit New Zealand this week began a programme to fell some wattle trees in the roadside reserve between the Carrington Road overbridge and the end of the Northwestern Motorway.
Wattles have been identified as a favourite food source for the Painted Apple Moth, and MAF, in conjunction with both Transit and Waitakere City Council, is working at removing wattle trees in the area.
“Once the trees have been removed, the sites will be properly landscaped,” says Transit Regional Manager Wayne McDonald.
Work will take place on Mondays to Fridays
from 9.30am and 3.00pm. Tree felling has been timed to
minimise impact on both surrounding residents and motorists
travelling during peak periods. During this time the
shoulder lane on both sides of the motorway may need to be
closed, and some lane closures may be
required.
