North Shore Busway website launched

A website has been launched to provide information to anyone who wishes to find out more about the North Shore Busway project which is beginning to take shape. Work has started on construction of the first two bus stations – at Constellation Drive and Albany. The project is expected to be delivered in stages over the next 4 years.

The North Shore Busway project website www.busway.co.nz has been launched by project partners Transit New Zealand, North Shore City Council, Auckland City Council and Auckland Regional Council.

According to busway project director, Clive Fuhr, the website will track the development of the busway, detailing when and how it will be built and how it will operate to improve public transport within North Shore City and to neighbouring cities. It will also have information on North Shore City’s Bus Rapid Transit initiatives which will complement the development of the busway. These include upgrading suburban bus stations, putting in priority measures to give buses a congestion-free run on local streets and improved information and security for passengers.

“The website is also intended as a resource for school students,” he says. “Already a number of students are using the project for school assignments.”

Mr Fuhr says the website is aimed at a diverse audience including users and potential users of public transport. “The busway will play an important role in helping the Auckland region tackle its congestion problem and the website will play its own part in keeping people updated as the project progresses.”

Anyone interested in receiving updates on the busway project can visit the site to sign-up for an email or postal newsletter.

The website is available at www.busway.co.nz
