Clendon celebrates countdown to new library
On Tuesday 10th May, Clendon community centre will host a party packed with activities to celebrate the start of building work on Clendon's new library.
Following the official blessing and sod turning ceremony, led by Mayor, Sir Barry Curtis, party-goers can tickle their taste buds at the sausage sizzle and younger guests can have their face painted, laugh with the clowns and walk away with their own balloon animal.
Later in the afternoon, guests can enjoy performances from local groups Trinity, Urban Beat, Quik 'n' Ezy and Mist and cheer on their team in the basketball competition.
Visitors will also be able to check out the plans for the new library - due to open in December this year - which will adjoin the existing community centre and have their say on the landscaping aspects of the design.
Sir Barry Curtis says:
"Clendon is a very close-knit community and bringing the new library onto the existing community centre site will provide a vibrant focal point for residents."
"Everyone we speak to is extremely excited about the new library and keen to be involved. This celebration means the community can be a part of the new development right from the very start."
