Auckland City community group training workshops

Auckland City community group training workshops

Auckland City is hosting a series of one-day workshops in May and June aimed at introducing community groups to business planning, fundraising and sponsorship and writing funding applications.

The three workshops will be suited to groups that have had little or no experience in these areas.

“Community groups contribute enormously to people’s lives and we want to enable them to be the best they can be by providing useful skills in these areas,” says Auckland City’s manager of community resourcing, Heather Owen.

Business planning training introduces groups to basic concepts in business planning and writing business plans.

The fundraising and sponsorship workshop will introduce fundraising concepts such as why people give, how to target your potential sponsors, and other fundraising ideas.

Funding application training aims at giving groups basic skills in how to prepare funding applications, sell projects to funders and introduce groups to different avenues for community group funding.

The three workshops are being held in venues around Auckland on different days to allow groups to attend sessions on all three topics.

There is a small charge and the cost includes a light lunch.

The funding application training workshops will be held in Onehunga on 24 May, Mt Roskill on 28 May and Waiheke on 17 June.

The business planning workshops will be held in the central city on 21 May and Three Kings on 26 May.

The fundraising and sponsorship workshops will take place at Onehunga on 14 June and Three Kings on 18 June

Bookings are essential and more information is available from the website: www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/council/services/communitydev/workshops.asp or by contacting Fiona MacKenzie on (09) 353 9658.
