Clendon Library Plans Unveiled
On Tuesday, Clendon residents celebrated the start of works on their new library with an activity-packed afternoon of fun at their local community centre. Party-goers enjoyed, among other things, face painters, hip hop and over 700 sausages, and also got their first glimpse of what the new library is going to look like.
Manukau City Council chose the event to unveil the plans for the $3.8 million project, which is due to open in December this year.
Currently, Clendon's library is a shop-front library in the nearby shopping centre; a space that the library has now out-grown. The Council is developing a purpose-built home for the library, fusing it with the existing community centre site, to provide a single vibrant focal point for residents.
Craig Harvett, project manager from Manukau City Council says, "the fun day was all about involving the community in the project from the very beginning and it was only right that the Clendon community should be the first to see what their new library is going to look like".
The plans will be on display at the Clendon community centre for the rest of the year. With the exception of the fitness centre, which is being relocated to the new leisure centre in Mountfort Park, it will be business as usual at the community centre during the construction period.
While the library is being built, and to ensure public safety, there will be minor changes to entrance ways to the community centre. Visitors to the community centre should check the centre's notice boards for updates or contact centre staff on 262 1100 for more information.
