Residents Welcome ‘Pak ‘N Save’progress

[Statement from David Thornton, Chairman]

Glenfield residents will welcome the news that another step forward has been taken towards the opening of the new Pak’n Save supermarket in Wairau Road,Glenfield.

The settlement announced between Transit and North Shore City Council should resolve all outstanding issues and, in view of the years of consultation and investigation leading to the present situation, the granting of a new resource consent by the council should be a formality – or, at the very least, a speedy conclusion.

At a public meeting organised by this Association last year local residents expressed anger at the late intervention of Transit NZ which has prevented the almost completed building from opening.

Residents were also angry that rival supermarket chain Woolworths/Foodtown had used every means possible under the Resource Management Act, and through the Courts, to prevent the Pak ‘n Save development.

We now require the North Shore City Council to act with all speed in hearing the new resource consent application.
