Sewing dreams and personal plans

The use of personal development plans has enabled Downtown Community Ministry clients to think about their passions and explore what they want for the future.

One DCM client’s plan includes getting a sewing machine to help her achieve her goals for the future.

Making patchwork quilts was identified as something she enjoys and possibly a longer term goal for making extra income. But the first step is to get a sewing machine.

DCM is seeking anyone who has, or knows of, a sewing machine in working order and could be given to this client to get in touch.

Material, cotton and thread are also needed but the main thing at this stage is to find a sewing machine.

Student Social Worker Kate Steele says, “We want to encourage this client to pursue her goals and using her own creativity is a great way to do it”.

Kate says she has seen the client’s handiwork and knows the sewing machine will be put to excellent use.
