Treat Your Dad: Formula One: The Great Design Race

Treat Your Dad On Father’s Day With Formula One ™ – The Great Design Race At Te Papa.

Te Papa is hosting a series of F1 events especially for dads on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September. A full events listing is contained in the media release.

The drawcard of the weekend is the Father’s Day F1 Brunch on Sunday in Icon on Level 2, presented in partnership with Visa Entertainment. There are only a few spaces left at this event to be hosted by former F1 driver Chris Amon, motorsport commentator Michael Clark, and motorsport writer Eoin Young. Treat your dad to a breakfast he will never forget! More information can be found at www.tepapa.govt.nz/brunch.

Amon, Clark and McMurray will also be giving expert floortalks in the Formula One ™ – The Great Design Race exhibition on Saturday (admission charges apply). Motorsport legend Greg Murphy makes his Te Papa debut on Sunday to talk about his career, inspirations and the current V8 championship on Te Papa. Then visitors can test the experts in a no-holds-barred question and answer session featuring Amon, Murphy and McMurray!

Throughout the weekend, the A1GP ‘Black Beauty’ car will be on show in Wellington Foyer on Level 2. The A1GP World Cup of Motorsport series is the first opportunity in any area of motorsport for countries to compete with each other on an equal basis. More than 20 national teams race the same high performance cars with no electronic driver aids so that performance is determined by human bravery, skill and excellence. The Lola ‘Black Beauty’ has been superseded by Ferrari-inspired race cars however the A1GP philosophy remains the same – it is a test of the team, not their technology.

Other highlights include KartSport NZ’s pit experience and the ever popular BA Racer simulators then finish off the weekend with the inspiring New Zealand documentary about the legends of F1 racing – Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, and Chris Amon.
