Taihape School's Talented Woodworkers Help Feilding SPCA
Woodworking pupils of Warwick Greaves at Taihape
Area School have come to the rescue of Feilding SPCA. The
students wanted a project that would also assist the
community - which is when the idea of Feilding SPCA was
discussed.
Warwick Greaves contacted us and kennel designs were discussed - we explained that kennels that have the entrance slap bang in the centre are no good - the dog needs to be able to walk in, and then get behind a wall for weather protection. We also (in our ideal wish list) wanted insulated kennels - not just for the winter months, but in the summer kennels can get unbearably hot. The roof on the kennels lifts up to allow for easier cleaning and there is also an overhang which allows the dogs to sit outside their kennel but still be protected from the weather.
Centre Manager Jo Finlayson said "The two kennels we have received are just beyond compare to what the dogs had to put up with before and the volunteers love them nearly as much as the dogs do because the design makes them so easy to clean."
Feilding SPCA receives no Central or Local Government funding and operates entirely on donations and fund-raising activities.
