Hutt City sends staff to help Christchurch

Hutt City Council has sent two building officers to Christchurch to help in the wake of the earthquake that hit the city on Saturday.

They join a member of the Hutt Valley Emergency Management Office who is already there helping with the emergency response.

Environmental Consents manager Helen Oram says the officers will be helping Christchurch City Council to carry out building inspections.

“With the earthquake causing extensive property damage there are a large number of buildings that need to be assessed for their safety.

“There is a high demand for inspection services at present so we will be helping our Christchurch colleagues clear the backlog of requests.

“We are pleased to be able to offer our support and solidarity and play a small part in helping Christchurch during this difficult time,” says Ms Oram.
