Contract out to tender for next Tauranga Link

Contract out to tender for next Tauranga Eastern Link support project

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) this week released the tender to extend Kaituna Road – one of the support projects preceding the main construction of the Tauranga Eastern Link (TEL).

The section of Kaituna Road to be extended is currently a paper road to the east of the TEL route. The 2.1 kilometre extension will provide access for properties that will be cut off from Pah Road by the TEL.

The $3.9M project involves relocating utilities, building a new stormwater drainage system and constructing the extension to Kaituna Road.

Three of the six support projects whose early construction have been identified as facilitating the construction of the main TEL project are currently underway. They provide a head-start for the project by completing important stages prior to the main construction.

Harry Wilson, the NZTA’s Bay of Plenty Regional Director says the tender process will run for two months.

“The successful tenderer will be appointed in late October and get work underway in November. We expect the extension of Kaituna Road will be completed by December 2011,” says Mr Wilson.

Meanwhile, the NZTA expects to appoint the main contractor in October.
