Waitemata Ward Announcement

Waitemata Ward Announcement - Community Needs Not Left or Right

This morning local Waitemata Board candidate Hinu te Hau announced that she is breaking away from the Citizens & Ratepayers ticket and intends to stand as an Independent.

“The decision to leave has not been taken lightly, however my ethos as a Maori women is at conflict with the C&R brand and with those who are representing the ticket. Local issues are not left or right and sadly the ticket is failing to recognise this,” said Ms te Hau.

“Auckland is changing and we have an opportunity to move this great city forward and bring our communities on board,” says te Hau who added, “political tickets cannot be allowed to trap Auckland in the past and that is a key reason for standing as an Independent.”

Ms te Hau has represented and played a significant part in the community through her role on the Hobson Community Board and a representative on Parnell Inc, the local business association.

Te Hau says “The past three years our community board worked because we not only kept the politics out of the boardroom, but we focused on the needs of the community and we had strong leadership from the top which is missing this time.

“My vote is with Tenby Powell, I like his vision for Auckland and I have to do what is right for me and the community that I represent; sometimes you need to make a stand rather than just talking about it,” says Ms te Hau.
