MEDIA RELEASE

NZ Transport Agency – Auckland Transport
Auckland drivers warned of
high tide risk
The NZ Transport Agency and
Auckland Transport advise drivers that there is a risk of
flooding on some low-lying highways and roads in the city
again tonight when higher than normal king tides peak in the
Waitemata Harbour at about 9pm.
The areas most at risk are Tamaki Drive east of the CBD, the soutbound lanes of the Northern Motorway (State Highway 1) between the Esmonde Road interchange and the Onewa Road on-ramp, and the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) causeway between Point Chevalier and Rosebank Road.
Tamaki Drive and one lane on both the Northwestern and Northern Motorways were closed for a short time last night when strong winds pushed high tides on to the roads.
Winds in Auckland have eased but maintenance crews will be on standby and roadside variable message boards will be used to help keep drivers informed of conditions ahead.
The NZTA and Auckland Transport say there will be closures if the safety of drivers are at risk.
