Hawke’s Bay RC: the state of our environment - May 2012
Winter didn’t officially start until
the beginning of June but you could be forgiven for thinking
it kicked in earlier.
The thermometer dipped below zero
on a couple of occasions in May and temperatures overall
were below what we would expect for late autumn. It seems
the frosty, calm nights drew us to our woodburners for
warmth and that meant air quality was compromised a few
times.
On the plus side we did get a break from the rain that has been falling fairly regularly and heavily since the start of the year. The river levels fell due to the lack of rain but soil moisture and groundwater levels have been slower to respond and remain in a healthy state.
