Patient Update on Stuart Scoular
Australian-based New Zealander Stuart Scoular, 41, is now in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital's intensive care unit following a crash at the Targa Rotorua rally yesterday.
His brother Bret, 34, also a New Zealander based in Australia was treated in the emergency department last night and discharged.
Orthopaedic surgeon Chris O'Meeghan today confirmed that Stuart Scoular's right leg was amputated below the knee in Waikato Hospital's emergency department yesterday.
He then
underwent four hours of surgery in theatre. He is today
conscious and talking to family and likely to be transferred
to a ward later today.
"He's come through remarkably
well," said Mr O'Meeghan.
His left leg and hip are broken as is his right thigh.
"The hospital pre planning for traumas like this worked very well," he said.
"The trauma team was ready and waiting as soon as
Stuart got here."
Mr Scoular faces further surgery this
week.
