Local craft market a real treasure

Craft out West is a true gem of a craft market featuring wall-to-wall artisan goods, hand-made treasures and vintage bargains. The annual market, a fundraiser for Hospice West Auckland, will be held on Saturday and Sunday 21 and 22 July at the Westwave Recreation Centre, Henderson.

Take the family along for a day everyone will enjoy. Foodies will love tasting the delicious homemade treats and espresso coffee in our cottage style café, and won’t pass up the opportunity to sample fruit wines, delectable chocolates and traditional preserves and relishes.

Luxury-lovers will be drawn to the handmade soaps, jewellery and gifts. Craft aficionados will appreciate the crafting supplies, sewing machines and scrap-booking. Vintage-lovers will be drawn to the re-appropriated china and the blokes will be tempted by the outdoor furniture.

While you are shopping let the children enjoy flax weaving and ceramic painting in the activities room. There will also be face painting on site, and doves for kids (and the young at heart) to release into the sky.

The market was established in 2008 by community-minded local Annetta Flaunty, who wanted to raise money for a worthy cause by bringing talented crafters, inspiring demonstrations and quality supplies to one venue for West Aucklanders to enjoy. Craft Out West was a finalist in the 2010 Westpac Business Awards, and it’s no wonder given the numbers of people who have flooded through the doors in previous years.

The money raised by Craft out West contributes to the ongoing care and support that Hospice provides within our community. Thanks to Auckland Council for their support of this event.
