Red Zone Woes Go To Parliamentary Petition

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Red Zone Woes Go To Parliamentary Petition

Christchurch- Quake Outcasts, a group of homeowners in the infamous residential red zones is presenting a Parliamentary petition to Christchurch East MP Lianne Dalziel on the second anniversary of the 4th of September 2010 earthquake outside the Wainoni Methodist Church at 878 Avonside Drive at 9:45 am.

The petition hopes to bring justice and peace of mind to the thousands of homeowners red-zoned and to correct the inherent flaws and inequities in the buyout offer.

Many red zoners are worse-off as a result of the red zoning, which is contrary to the original intended purpose of the government's policy.

The tying of insurance to the buyout offer in the red zone is discriminatory as well as misleading. When government takes private property either by red zoning or other means, all affected residents should be equitably compensated.

The intentional or unintentional disregard for homeowners' property rights will be brought to the fore in Parliament because of the petition.
