Tennyson St Fair

Media Release
From: Elim International Church
11 October 2012

Tennyson Street will be anything but ordinary this Sunday as Elim International Church, in conjunction with the Wellington City Council, stages a party the community won’t forget.

The fair has something for everyone from a petting zoo, pony cart rides and face-painting for the littlies right through to performances by soul singer Kemara Fuimaono and the Downtown Community Ministry’s Ukelele Orchestra.
There will also be a huge selection of international foods, good quality pre-loved clothing, Christmas crafts and jewellery not to mention art and exhibitions.

Community groups represented include Supergrans, Capital Care, Elim International Kids Early Childhood Centre and Compassion House.
Fair organiser Kim Boyce-Campbell says the fair is a chance to bring people living in the inner-city together to celebrate community.

She says part of the reason for this celebration is that strengthened connections within the local community will help people prepare for a natural disaster.

“Our church is ideally situated to open our doors and help people if a disaster occurs, so we want our neighbours to know we’re here.”

A survey team will be circulating at the fair, asking people what they would like to see happen to enhance community in the inner city. They will also be providing information about emergency preparedness and giving out prizes. Water containers and survival packs will also be available for sale.
Tennyson St runs off Cambridge Tce. The fair starts at 11am and runs until 2.30pm.
