Otago flood conditions update
A northwest flow is expected to intensify over the South Island tonight, bringing 80mm to 120mm of spillover rain to the headwaters of Otago lakes and rivers from 3am Friday to 3am Saturday.
People are advised that the heavy rain could cause rivers and streams to rise rapidly, flooding and slips. Even rivers and streams in the east of the South Island where there may be little rain, are also likely to respond to heavy rain falling in the headwaters.
The Taieri and Clutha Rivers are currently high and rising, but the Pomahaka and Manuherikia Rivers are receding.
ORC
flood managers are continuing to monitor the situation.
Up-to-date river level and rainfall information is available on the ORC Water Info site (www.water.otago.govt.nz) or by phoning 0800 426 463.
Further information on flood hazard can be found
in the Otago Natural Hazards Database. Flood alerts can also
