Council Picks up Pukekohe Dog Pound Management

Waikato District Council has taken on the management of Pukekohe Dog Pound after the former contractor of the Auckland Council-owned facility ended its contract earlier this year.

The facility, which reopened last week, is located at 15 Austen Place, Pukekohe and is open for business Monday to Friday from 1pm – 4pm and from 9am - 11am on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to operating the pound, the Council has extended its Animal Control presence in the north of the district with two new Animal Control Officers now based at the Council’s Tuakau office.

The pound is home to dogs that are picked up wandering or are seized from properties for aggressive behaviour or attacking. If the dog is not collected by its owner within seven days it will be assessed for its suitability to be re-homed.

For more information or to contact the Pukekohe Dog Pound, call 09 238 4934.

The Council also owns and operates a pound in Brownlee Avenue, Ngaruawahia, which is open Monday to Friday, 2.30pm – 3.30pm.

Dogs available for adoption from either pound can be viewed at www.facebook.com/pages/Animal-Re-home-Waikato/512161805505695
