Innovative new election signs have been spotted all round Hamilton, provoking gasps of awe and wonder from passing motorists and pedestrians.

It’s all part of Ross MacLeod’s election campaign, through which he is encouraging Hamilton voters to “think outside the square,” and vote for him.

“That’s why my signs are round,” explains MacLeod, perhaps unnecessarily.

All signs are recycled from various previous election signs, and have been painted over and stencilled for the ultimate in zero-budget election campaign flair.

The signs are circular, in a marked and welcome contrast to all other candidates signs, which are variations on a theme of “oblong.” Another key distinguishing mark is that MacLeod’s signs all enjoy a constant ratio of circumference to diameter.

MacLeod’s signs have more to them than just their shape, however. They sport a variety of slogans which have been compared in brilliance to (variously) the works of Vladimir Nabokov, Charles Dickens, and Terry Pratchett.

“Think outside the square!” says one, in a reference to the fact that the sign it is emblazoned on is round, and other candidate signs are not round.

“Generic slogan!” says another, which is a labour-saving device for voters, allowing them to insert their own ideas of what a good generic election slogan or set of vague promises is.

“It’s a sign!” says a third, which is a reference to the fact that the slogan is on a sign and is also a metaphor for how all indications point to the fact that you should vote for Ross MacLeod.
