ORC chairman re-elected

Cr Stephen Woodhead has been elected chairman of the Otago Regional Council for another three-year term, while Cr Gretchen Robertson has been elected as his deputy.

The elections took place at the inaugural council meeting of the 2013-16 term in Dunedin today.

Cr Woodhead and Cr Robertson have both been regional councillors since 2004. Cr Woodhead was re-elected as a Molyneux constituency representative at the recent local body re-elections.

Cr Robertson was re-elected as a Dunedin constituency representative and takes over the deputy chairmanship from Cr David Shepherd, who did not seek the role again.

The new council was sworn in today by chief executive Peter Bodeker, with new Dunstan councillors Graeme Bell and Gary Kelliher taking their seats in the council chamber for the first time.

The appointment of council committee chairmen and deputy chairmen will be finalised at a council meeting on November 6.
