Tukituki Catchment Proposal –Board of Inquiry Hearing
Day 12 – 4 December 2013
The discussion today focused on groundwater modelling for the Tukituki Catchment.
Ruataniwha Water Users Group
Counsel for the Ruataniwha Water Users Group told the board the group represents approximately 75 per cent of irrigators in the Ruataniwha Basin.
He says good progress has been made through caucusing but the group still has concerns relating to surface water and groundwater allocation limits. The group has similar concerns to Mr Apple NZ Ltd and JM Bostock around the proposed maximum groundwater allocation and the proposed seasonal allocation.
He says despite the remaining concerns it supports Plan Change 6 in all other respects.

§ Gave evidence on groundwater hydrology and the impact Plan Change 6 will have on irrigation in Ruataniwha Plains
o Good Earth Matters Consulting Ltd Senior Planner - Andrew Bashford
§ Gave evidence on his evaluation of Plan Change 6 in relation to Ruataniwha Water Users Group submission
Counsel for HBRC/HBRIC Ltd told the board after discussion with various submitters HBRC has shifted its position on the proposed groundwater allocation volumes for zones two and three to 30 million cubic metres per year which includes an allowance for permitted activity takes, domestic and stock water and frost protection takes.
Board Chairman Lester Chisholm said the board appreciated the genuine effort being made by all parties to resolve outstanding issues.
